Search Engine

Hi, in the past, I have used 'Kayak' as my search engine in looking for airfare. This year air fare price has been very high. I was wondering if I could suggestion regarding other possible search engine. I have also used the direct site of American airlines. Have been looking for an open jaw ticket from Sfo to Rome and Barcelona back to Sfo. The most reasonable I found is a little over $ 1,700 .Thanks a lot.

It is not the search engine's fault. Air fares are high for peak summer travel which I assume you are planning. And the forecast is that they may be higher still depending on oil prices and the middle east situation. Also, both of those cities are very popular and fares tend to be higher. If your schedule could handle Milan and or Madrid you might prices those cities.

Try momondo.com It is a search engine that claims to search over 800 other travel websites to find the best price. It is based in Denmark. You can't book through them; it is search-only. It will direct you to the website where they found the best fare.

Frank is absolutely on the money with his response. I saw your other post and I think you mentioned June travel. Well, that is peak season. You are traveling from the West Coast, and "cheap" airfares really only happen on lucky days out of NYC. Open jaw is ever so slightly higher than a straight round-trip most times (but worth it to avoid backtracking). And I think I read that international airfares were up something like 17-30% in the last couple years--not to mention the precarious cost of oil. Search as best you can, but on your BEST possible day, I'd still completely expect a minimum of $1300+ for probably not-so-ideal flights--BEFORE any of the major airlines decide to tack on additional fuel surcharges like they did when gas was over $4/gallon summer 2007. By the way....I haven't noticed that they every REMOVED those fuel surcharges!
