Scopello

We are off to Scopello thanks to Rick Steves and Roberto. Has anyone stayed at B and B Bernardos lately? Is it possible to contact them? They seem just to have a phone. Any other suggestions on where to stay? Elizabeth

I stayed at "La Tavernetta" (little Tavern), if I'm not mistaken. If I'm not mistaken the owners/hosts were school teachers. I think the husband taught English, therefore his English was very good. There was also another pensione next door called Tranchina or something like that. But there are several places around and I also remember a fairly new Agriturismo just outside town. The Tavernetta was "downtown" (you'll laugh when you see their downtown, it would probably fit in most American backyards). Nightlife in town revolves around the Baglio. The Baglio is a typical Sicilian farm that looks like a fort with an ample courtyard inside. There is one in Scopello right 'downtown'. I think it dates from the Middle Ages. The Zingaro Reserve is very close. It's perfect for a beach day (rocky beaches), very beautiful and sparkling clean waters. You need a car, so rent one and use Scopello as a base for day trips.
