Scooting around Tuscany/Umbria

Hi, This August, my husband and I plan to take some scooters and scoot around Tuscany or Umbria.
1st day, Hang around Montepulciano, spend the night
2nd day - 4th day its a blank book but need to be back to Montepulciano on the 4th night as we depart in the morning from Montepulciano for Florence.

We have done Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, Buoncovento, San Giovanni d'Asso, Chiusure, Asciano, Arbia and Sienna so we don't want to do that route again.

Could someone recommend some scenic routes and towns to stop by for sight seeing and also great restaurants to eat We would prefer B roads as we're on scooters? Have been thinking of heading to Perugia way but don't know what's nice to see.

Suggestions greatly welcomed. Thank you very much.

This of course assumes that you will have IDPs, and your home driving licenses, are experienced in two wheel motorised riding, and will get machines powerful enough to deal with the steep hills, and with good enough brakes, and nimble enough for the tight corners.

This from a former biker.

Hello Nigel. Thanks for the reminder, and yes we have our IDP's. Hubby has 26 years riding experience and is currently riding a Fireblade and a vintage vespa. I've got only 3 years under my belt and am riding a KTM and Vespa. We have done the Tuscany winding and steep hills before on a 125cc vintage vespa You'd be quite surprised that a 125cc Vespa can manage those steep ascent and winding roads very comfortably (no pillion rider) . It just does not get comfortable when you go to highways as it does not have speed hence we want to avoid motorways and A roads.

I can't comment on scooter riding or back roads, but we were just in the Chianti region for a week and greatly enjoyed Volterra and Greve. We stayed at an Airbnb in Panzano and thought it was a lovely little town. I hope to stay in that area again very soon.

We ate twice at a restaurant in Greve, Il Gallo Nero and thought it was great. The service was best at lunch. I'm sure we missed a hundred wonderful restaurants in the area -- lots of advice to be had on this forum.

I know this will be heresy to some on this forum but we were underwhelmed by the food at Dario's place in Panzano. It was a fun experience though.

Have a great time.

You mentioned that you've already been on scooters in Tuscany. I can only say that I found all of our rental car drives in Tuscany to be a little longer than I wanted. I was glad to be seated in an air conditioned car on a sweltering day. If you love the wind in your face, fine. At least you won't have to work quite as hard to find a legal, proper parking place as I did. I trust you won't park on the grass or on the sidewalk.

If you scoot around Umbria I really enjoyed Bolsena on Lake Bolsena. Nice little town with not many English visitors. Meet several Germans around town.

What size motorcycle are you renting?
A 125cc is not allowed on freeways

Go to the website below:
https://www.freemaptools.com/radius-around-point.htm
Search for the base where you will be renting the scooter.
select 50km radius.
Click on the town you use as a base for your day trips.
Check the towns within the circle. Anything farther than that, is way to far for a day trip on a 125cc.

Second vote for Bolsena. Best gelato from an artigianal shop on via Santa Cristina.
