I have read that there are electric scooters in Rome. I'm from the US and here in places like DC that means scooters can be found laying around the whole city and you just walk up to them scan a QR or similar and off you go. Is it the same in Rome? Are they hard to find? I heard you have to use a helmet is this true?
Thanks!
OP riding a scooter in Rome traffic would be insane. Traffic in Rome far different from what find here in the states. A helmet AND a suit of armor would be ideal. Honestly, if you want try a scooter while visiting Rome book a scooter tour.
Yes they are all over the place. There are several scooter sharing operators and I think they use different apps.
Go to www.turismoroma.it and find all the information.
Since December 2024 helmets are mandatory.
Stay safe, forget scooters in Rome.
Yes, it's the same. We just returned from Italy and saw lots of scooters for rent in various places in Rome. I didn't see anyone wearing a helmet, but I would check on the legal requirement before you get there. Have fun!
OP, heed what Claudia said!! I've been to Roma a number of times and am familar with the traffic. I've also driven race cars, but there isn't any way in %&$$ I'll ride a scooter in Rome.
Based on your other posts, you will have your kids with you aged 6 and 9? Will they be on the scooters with you?
I’m sure you would decide the same once you got there and saw for yourself - not worth risking injury and ruining your trip. If you’re looking for a fun mode of transportation/way of touring, I’d look at golf cart tour options.
Whether you should ride a scooter in Rome depends on where you normally ride scooters. If you don’t, Rome’s not a good place to start. But if you normally ride in downtown Boston, NYC or San Francisco you’ll probably be fine. And if you normally ride in Cairo, Mumbai or Manila you’ll laugh at how calm and orderly the traffic is!
Minimum age requirements is 14 year old to ride a scooter.
What do you mean by 'electric scooter"
Or something else? If so , what exactly?
the thing about the scooters is that the roads are not smooth - so it makes for a very bumpy ride at times! My husband and i used them a couple of times when we had a long walk and weren't in a crowded area.
Thanks everyone for the advice! Sounds like an overwhelming not a good idea. Thanks
