How does everyone feel about renting a scooter in Italy? At first, I thought maybe we can do Amalfi coast on scooters, but then, after reading about it, got a little worried. Maybe in Rome then?
How's your life insurance policy? Someone else once posted a video on here of life on a scooter in Rome. It's insane.
I didn't even want to drive a car there (and didn't).... they certainly don't follow the same rules we follow here! That applies to autos, too. But if you have a sense of adventure, have experience riding one, then I say it's a possibility.
Before you rent a scooter you should see some of the videos on YouTube about driving in Italy. It's very scary. I know it seems like it would be fun but the odds of you not getting into an accident are very low. Donna
I assume you are experienced riders and know how to handle scooters in heavy traffic. Go to RoninRome.com for a section on scooters in Rome. You will need a US driver's license with a motorcycling endorsement and the International Drivers Permit. Have fun, it could well be a life changing event.
Alla, Rome is worse than Amalfi - and Naples is worse than Rome! See this post for some comments and two videos on riding scooters. Not something I'd recommend unless you are an experienced motorcycle rider... and if so, I would venture to suggest staying in the country and outside the cities. We enjoyed riding our motorino, but we rode every day in the city ... so we were adjusted, and we also knew where we were going and how to get there!
