Scenic High Speed Train from Salerno

I'm from the USA and am a train enthusiast. We (myself, wife, and 2 kids, ages 11 and 8) are visiting the Amalfi Coast over Easter and unfortunately my plans to ride the Frecciarossa from Roma Termini to Salerno got cancelled because we're flying into Naples.

We don't have much to do on Easter Sunday and I thought that might be a good day to take a joy-ride, just to see the country side. We're staying in Atrani to something out of Salerno would be best. Can someone recommend a route? Something scenic, maybe along the coast line would be nice. 45 minutes to an hour each way is long enough. If there's a destination with something to do, or even something fun for the kids, that would work also. Remember, this will probably be on Easter Sunday, so I realize a lot will be closed.

Ideally I'd prefer the Frecciarossa, but if there is a recommend route that only has Intercity or Regional service, I'd still like to hear about it.

Thanks in advance.

The trains run less on Sundays and probably even less on Easter Sunday, I’ve stayed in Salerno for a couple of nights before staying at Amalfi which is near your town. I took the fast train from Florence to Salerno. I wouldn’t call it scenic. But, my main reason to reply is that you could experience a train ride by taking the regional train from Salerno down to Paestum. Paestum has wonderful Greek temple ruins a short walk from the train station.

You could visit Paestum, with its incredibly well-preserved Greek temples.

Patrick, there’s a Italo Treno (fast train, private company) that would get you from Salerno to Agropoli in about 52 minutes.
This is on a Sunday, tourist season. You would have to check schedules closer to your date for Easter Sunday.

It does have a lovely historic center a Castle and Lungomare.
