Scenic Drive from Airport to Central Palermo

Hello Travellers,
Has anyone taken a scenic coastal drive from the airport to central Palermo? If so, is it a pretty drive that would make a nice introduction to Sicily?

Ok, this is a jetlagged memory, but I took the airport shuttle to the main train station in town, and recall water and mountains. Interesting, but maybe not too great because the route was a fairly busy highway.

It’s a 4 lane freeway (A29) and you can see what the drive looks like by going on Google Map Streetview.
Some who made that drive on May 23, 1992 at 6pm thought that drive was the bomb.

We were there last May.
The airport bus does go along the coast, so you do see the sea, and then go through some spectacular high rock formations.
It’s scenic providing you don’t look too closely at the sides of the road leaving the airport and for about the next 10 minutes.
There are wild cacti along it, which is amazing, but then you see huge piles of bags of garbage, and loose garbage, at the sides of the road
.its quite shocking.
The problem of waste disposal has gone on in Sicily for years, I believe.
The road is part highway, with the usual factories, car dealers, etc along it.
I wouldn’t say pretty or scenic, , but certainly interesting, and that’s the route into Palermo.

Sicily itself is amazing and wonderful, so don’t let it put you off.

Thank you for this clear description of the drive into Palermo. Great! I was thinking of taking a taxi into the city along the coast, but it sounds like the train might be best. It’s my first trip to Sicily, so very glad to hear that it won’t disappoint! 😊

Apparently taxis are not recommended in Palermo
..from everything I had read pre trip.
Unreliable, less than honest, etc.
The airport bus is fine.
The ticket office is just before the exit to the road, inside the airport.
The bus is called Prestia e Commande, and takes about 30 minutes into the city.
