Scavi tour versus the newly opened Necropolis Via Triumphalis tour

Hello,
Other than seeing the tomb of St. Peter, what are the differences between these two tours? I understand that the booking is different for the Scavi tour but I'm not sure which one to take.

I'm not really sure how to answer this. The scavi tour under the basilica takes you through an ancient cemetery and at the end they show you what they believe is the final resting place of St. Peter. You are actually walking on the street level of the cemetery and looking into the tombs. When you get to the area where St. Peter is it can be a very emotional experience.

For the Via Truimphalis tour you are on a catwalk of sorts looking into an ancient cemetery. It's easier to see how it's laid out and the tile work on the floors but it's totally different than being on street level and walking through it.

If it doesn't matter to you which you take you may want to just book the Via Triumphalis tour as it's easier to get on and you can then visit the museums afterwards with the same ticket.

There's an interesting video about the Via Triumphalis here:

I agree that the main difference seems to be that the Scavi tour features the assumed burial place of St. Peter and is actually underneath the basilica, whereas the VT is nearby, but not underneath.
