Scavi Tour Changing the Date

I sent an email yesterday to the Vatican for the Scavi Tour and this morning I received an email back with our date and time, October 28 at 9:15. I realized that we don't arrive in Rome until 9:40 that day. I meant to give them October 29 as our date. Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone had much luck changing their date? I can't believe I gave the wrong date. I have sent back an email explaining my mistake hopefully they will be able to fit us in the next day.

Thanks for the replies. I definitely apologized;) I am hoping it will be no problem since I emailed them back immediately. I don't think I will hear back until tomorrow. I was so excited when I saw the email this morning and then so disappointed when I saw my mistake.

If they are able to change the date they will. They are usually as accommodating as they can be. Donna

Be sure to tell them you feel guilty and ask forgiveness. They're big on that there. :-) Have a great time, but be prepared for it to be very warm down there, even in October. 100% humidity with the heat on. Wear layers that you can peel off. But it was a highlight of our recent trip.

The Scavi office folks are really rather delightful. As Donna said, I really don't think you will have a problem if they have that time slot open. At worst, they may offer you a time as close to what you requested as they have available. We had reservations nailed down in advance, then we received an email from them changing our time once the beatification schedule was announced. So, they make changes on their end, too. We arrived a bit early (the Swiss guard...who are really rather cute) won't let you enter the waiting area too early, but since we were about 15 minutes early, they let us join the earlier tour. So, there is some flexibility. If you don't hear from them in about a week, I'd suggest sending another email that is it "your lifelong dream"to go on this tour (or something you feel more comfortable saying). At most, they will make you say "three Hail Marys and four Our Fathers." Sorry....a little ex-Catholic humor :o It is a neat tour, and also climb the dome if you have time....amazing views. Fun to say you saw it all top to bottom :)

Be sure to search on this site for other recent threads on the Scavi Tour, specifically how to avoid the long security line into St. Peter's to check any bags you might be carrying.

Thanks for the tip. I have checked out some of the other Scavi questions. Our appointment is for 9:30am I hope to get there early and beat some of the crowds. Our B&B is nearby so that should help. Although I am a little concerned about jet-lag, we arrive the day before, so I have been reading tips on beating the time change. We are from Nova Scotia so the difference is only 5 hours.

Since your B&B is nearby, you can leave your daypack/etc. there, so need to go through the security lines at all. You just walk right up to the Swiss Guards on the left side of the Basilica, facing the Basilica.
