I’m looking for any suggestions/recommendations for where a single, 65ish, very active woman should stay on the island of Sardinia. I want to be near a beach and, optimally have a hotel with a balcony and sea view from the room. Three or four star hotel. I don’t really want to deal with a car so prefer location with decent public transportation and close access to a marina for day trips on a boat or catamaran. I would be traveling in mid April, 2026.
Any info greatly appreciated.
Check out Algerho. Easy to fly in and out, lots of charming small hotels, a very compact and walk-able city. Public trans is spotty at best in Sardinia, so you want to rent a car.
I agree that Alghero would be the ideal destination for your needs. It's lovely!

We had a car but a friend went for a week just using public transport and went to Bosa, La Pelosa (Stintino), the various beaches such as Bombarde all by bus.
Plus of course there's a beach in Alghero - beach things won't be up and running in April so you will need a beach towel unless you find a hotel with beach facilities included - in which case check they if will be open in April.
If you are active, all of Alghero is walkable, although there is a bus all along the seafront too
What kind of boat trips are you interested in? It will be early for that--seas will be frigid.
I agree with Tinac and Alghero would be my choice if I were visiting solo. North of there it looks like some nice wide open walking (which I would feel more comfortable with if hiking solo).
Thank you all for this info. I will check out those areas. I am not expecting to snorkel or actually swim at that time of year....just want to get out on the water in a kayak or on a boat or catamaran.
Very different from sea kayaking, but I see there is kayaking on the river in Bosa, might be a nice option if you stick with the Alghero area.
I would delve into what on offer at the Regional Natural Park of Porto Conte just across from Alghero. Good luck!
