Sardinia Public Transportation & Itinerary Recommendations

Hello!
Traveling to Italy in April-May 2026 and very interested in exploring Sardinia. I prefer not to rent a car, so would be interested in recommendations of areas to visit using public transportation.
Thank you!

From what I have read, Alghero would make a decent base without a car. My second choice would be Cagliari.
Look for a Rough Guide or similar book (or play around with google) to get a sense of bus routes.
How much time do you have available? It won't be beach season, so that aspect of car travel will be less of a factor, but do share what you are interested in doing. Many of the archaeological sites are scattered, so maybe some smaller local tours would be possible if that is the kind of thing you are interested in.

Good advice from Valadelphia. It's not so hard to get around between towns and cities using public transport but more difficult to reach the beautiful coast and beaches. But this is possible from both Alghero and Cagliari. This is a trip report of a few days in May in Alghero. We had a car but a friend went for a very successful week just using public transport.
