Sardinia - One Day

Hello, This is our first trip to Europe and we are doing it via a cruise - and 5 extra days in Rome. But we are having a hard time deciding on what to do in Sardinia. We can go to the beach, tour the Su Nuraxi of Barumini archeological site, or stay within the city and stroll. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Robin

Sardinia is not a city, it's a huge island.
Where is your port of call? Cruises go to several ports: Olbia, Golfo Aranci, Cagliari, Alghero, and more.
Barumini is in the middle of the island and at least 1.5 hours from the closest port (Cagliari).
I like beaches, but the best beaches aren't generally inside port cities. They are out of town. Which beach were you planning to go to?
Alghero is a nice town, but I don't know if you dock there.
Olbia doesn't really do a lot for me.
I've never been to Cagliari, so I don't know much about it.

HI,
We too are stopping in Sardinia as part of our cruise. We have two kids ages 13 and 5. Our port is Obia. Obia comes right after Florence and before Rome so I am hoping for an easy day.

Suggestions?
If we are going to Rome and will see the Forum and the Coliseum- the kids may be archeologicallyed out...
What beach is nearby and family friendly?
Any tips on getting there?
Can we do both the site and the beach?
Happy to hear from those in the know.
