Sardinia in late April early May

We will be traveling for three weeks in Sardinia. We have stops planned for four home bases, often in smaller communities.

Our most recent trip was in Norway, where, to our surprise, cash was almost never needed, and English was spoken everywhere.

Can anyone tell us based on recent traveling in Sardinia, what level of cash we should have on hand (as opposed our default of using credit cards)?

To what extent should we assume in smaller communities that folks will speak English?

By law, throughout Italy, merchants must accept digital payments (debit/credit card) regardless of amount. Having said that, most Italians will pay hard cash for small purchases like an espresso at a coffee bar. That is even truer in smaller towns in rural areas, where many, especially the elderly, don’t ever use cards.

English is spoken by people working with tourists in smaller communities with lots of tourists. So, if by smaller community you mean the super rich VIP yacht community of Porto Rotondo or Porto Cervo then yes. But if we are talking of some small village in the Gennargentu mountains then not so much.

Many thanks. Your response confirms our past experience and expectations. And, for better or worse, I think the closest we come to yachts is an occasional game of Yahtzee!
