My husband and I are planning a few months in Europe in September. We will be traveling from Rome (where I’ve been many times) to Sicily (where we spent 2 weeks in 2019) and thought Sardinia looked quite interesting.
We would only have 4 days at most (before we depart for Morocco) and am wondering if this is enough time to enjoy this island? We love ruins, art/architecture, great food, nature and especially the small towns of Europe. We are both 70 but pretty active and have traveled a great deal.
Here are some of the places we’re considering:
Cala Goloriza & Porto Flavia (renting a boat)
Alghero
Neptune’s Grotto
Capo Caccia
Castel Sardo & elephant rock
Capo Testa (rock formations) & lighthouse
Baso (historic center)
Tharros ( nearby museum in Oristano)
Bastione di St. Remy
Travolara island
Goal di Gorrapu
Natural park of Molentarius
Costa Smeralda
Knowing we have such a limited amount of time which of these are in your opinion not to be missed? Where should we spend the night? Alghero & Baso look the best so far…
Thanks in advance
We've been to Sardinia twice and added it on the recommendation of the Italians I work with as it's where they go for holiday.
Based on what you've said I would urge you to just do the West coast as the Southeast is for the beaches. Fly into either Oblio or Alghero and out of Cagliari and just meander done the coast. Going on the North from Oblio look for the signs for the winerys(world class) for tastings, however, be aware that outside of the major cities, "Siesta" is the norm. Picknick or lunch around 1 or so or you'll find everything closed. Put yourself on "Italian time" and you'll have a great time.As an aside, be sharp-eyed for the winery signs as they aren't billboards.
