MY Wife and I fly into Olbia Sept 20th looking fore two hubs to explore Sardinia. We realize 8 days is not enough so we just want to explore the northern region. Thinking of staying in either Palau or Santa Teresa Gallura for 4 days, . and then possibly either Bossa or Alghero for the other 4 days. We would love your thoughts on which two of these 4 towns we should stay in and why and if there is another town you recommend instead of one of these please let us know which one and why. thank you so much. Between S. Teresa and Palau I like S. Teresa better. Palau may offer more ferry options to the Maddalena and is closer to the Costa Smeralda, but there are plenty of boat excursions to the Maddalena archipelago from S. Teresa, and the two are close. I’ve driven back and forth many times from S. Teresa to Palau, but to me S. Teresa is prettier. From S. Teresa you can also visit Bonifacio in Corsica by car ferry (50 min crossing).
Between Alghero and Bosa, it depends on what you want to see from your base. Both are pretty. Alghero is a bigger town with a lot of history and beautiful city center. Bosa is a smaller town in a river famous fro the colorful building facades. I would probably use Alghero as a base, but, as I said, it depends on what you want to visit and if you prefer s small town or a larger one.
