Have been to Italy several times but not Sardinia. Would like to stay in the Olbia area, possibly on the water. Are there any other beach areas near Olbia besides Costa Smeralda which seems to be for the rich and famous as the room prices are quite high. Would like hotel recommendations and also what to see and do. Will be there in October for 4 days.

Sardinia is an island surrounded by glorious beaches. I circled it anti clockwise from Càgliari. The south east coast, north coast , west coast all have great beaches. As Roberto suggested rent a car and explore. The island is amazing. Don’t limit yourself just to the beaches.
Since you’re going in October, prices all over the island including the Costa Smeralda drop substantially. I was there in late September early October and it was very economical.

Have you looked into Airbnb or VRBO as more economical options? Do you have a budget in mind (in euros)?
