Has anyone visited Sardinia? Rick Steves never mentions the island. I thought I could travel to Sardinia from Rome. Any suggesions?

We visited Sardinia several years ago and had a lovely trip. We rented a car in Alghero and drove in a big circle around the island. I'm sorry I don't recall the details of places we stayed so can't give specific recommedations. Someone posted a question about Sardinia on the Helpline August 30 and got a few responses, so you may want to look at that thread.
