Sardinia

We are a family of 5 (3 kids age 15, 12, 7) and we will be in Sardinia 7 days, June 23-30. We will have a rental car, and we have an apartment in Cagliari that we will use as a base. We want to see an much of the island as possible without spending so much time driving.

We could return to our base in Cagliari every night (which would be free for us) but I am afraid that might limit what we can do.

Or we would be willing to get an Airbnb for a couple of nights a little further north if that would help us see more without spending all our time driving.

I am seeking advice on itinerary. Thanks in advance!

I only have experience in the north side, and I’ve never been to Cagliari, but I can guarantee you that you won’t be able to visit the north from Cagliari on a day trip. Distances may not look long on a globe, but many roads do not allow high speed, so it would take forever to go back and forth. My suggestion, if you want to visit beyond the Cagliari area and the south, is to split your stay and select a northern place as well. I always stayed in the vicinity of Santa Teresa, which is on the northernmost tip, which is also a good place if one wants to add a bit of Corsica to the list.
