We are traveling to Italy in April/May and have a cousin in Sardegna (near Cagliari), as well as family near L'Aquila. We've never met any of them, so we're looking for inexpensive but decent places to stay nearby these two towns. Any suggestions about places or about traveling in these areas?

Joan, we found some great places in Sardenia using the Trip Advisor web site. I can't reccomend the Cagliari apt, unless you get one of the rooms in front, then it would be great. It was just across from the beach. (Il Profumo del Mare, $90 EU/nite)We loved Cagliari. Wonderful people, food, great beaches nearby, etc. Good airport with lots of lo-cost EU flights. We did Northern Sardinia, and some of the West coast. Found an awesome agri in the North with fantastic meals (Agri Stazzi la China, $80 EU w/o dinners)
and a good location,lo-cost B&B in Algehero (Mario and Giovanna, $70EU/nite) We used the Lonely Planet guidbook for good advice about the island. We used an overnight car ferry for our entrance,and RyanAir for our exit.
