We are thinking of spending 3 nights there in early October.. any thoughts?
We visited in early October, there were still a few tourists around, shops and restaurants open. You can visit Castellabate, and Agropoli etc if you've got a car.

Thank you. Was a pleasant stay?
We spent 3/4 nights in Agropoli between a long stay of 3 weeks in Puglia and a week in Naples. We visited Agropoli which has some pretty corners, hiked a little way on the coast south, Castellabate and Santa Maria di Castellabate. The last two were definitely the prettiest places we saw. We had a car. We also spent a day in Salerno by car, a big mistake, should have gone by train.
It was nice but I'd expected more from the Cilento area. For me the towns and villages didn't have the magic of the historical centres in Puglia with that light coloured sandstone and impression of sun clean warmth.
But it's very subjective what one person likes another might not....
Many people visit the Cilento and love it. In any case if it fits in with your other plans a few days should be enjoyable. Have a look at the trip report here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/southern-italy-30-days-three-ways-to-travel
Fred spent a few days there. The buffalo farm he mentioned is fantastic!
