We want to see just the cathedral and I understand entrance is free and you cannot reserve a time. Any hints as to the best time to see the cathedral while not waiting too long. BTW, we just arrived in Florence today.
As early as you can manage . We were in Rome and Florence last September ,and since our previous visit , the queues at St Peter's and Santa Maria were hours long . The early bird … , well you know . Consider that if you are there really early ( before opening ) , the heat won't be that of late morning , and while you might wait an hour for opening , it beats three to four hours later in the day
Thank you Steven for confirming what I thought. Getting there early is the best way to tour the cathedral without taking a tour of everything else. Appreciate the advice!
We were just there. Go early. You can also go when they have a mass, have a seat and see the cathedral but won't be able to walk around.
