I had planned to stay 3 nights in Vernazza but have heard great things about Santa Margherita Ligure...wondering if I should stop one night there on the way to the CT (flying into Milan), or if I should just do a day trip from CT?
Thoughts?
My husband and I love Santa Margherita and will be spending six nights there in early May. It is a lovely town and a great base for the CT, a beautiful bus ride to Portofino, a train ride to Camogli or Nervi, a boat ride to any of the CT and as far as Portovenere. We stay at the Hotel Tigullio @ Corso Elia Rainusso, 3a ([email protected]), which is less than five minutes from the downtown area and the same to the train station. The hotel is very nice and serves a substantial breakfast in a charming room.
We did it as a day trip from Monterosso. It is a nice town and I highly recommend it. However I would not recommend staying 1 nite there, or almost anywhere. The whole getting to/from the hotel, checking in, checking out, etc. consumes more time than you might think. As a day trip you're carrying just what you need for the day instead of all the luggage you brought to Europe.
Thank you both for the comments.
And, Mike, good point, I appreciate the thoughts on just staying one night...
