I have a free day in Santa Margherita on Tuesday July 31st. I am interested in going on a ferry for the day to Cinque Terre. Not sure what town the ferry goes to or what town is the best. If I need to pre book or just show up that day. I am only interested in the ferry and being on the water. I looked at a website that had a confusing schedule. Looking for suggestions since Tigullio Lines 3,4,5 are shutdown

It looks like the ferry doesn't run on Tuesday. At least that is how I am reading it.
You could take the train to the Cinque Terre and then take the boat between towns there.
You can also take a ferry around the peninsula to Portofino, San Fruttuoso, and Camogli if you choose not to take the train and just want to be on the water somewhere.
I did download a brochure that showed Tigullio Ferry, Line 4 on Tuesday afternoon from Santa Margherita to Cinque Terre. I don't know how many other ferry lines operate there.
You are right, I didn't see line 4. However, it only stops in VERNAZZA for an hour. But if all you want to do is see the coast from the sea--which is my favorite way of seeing the CT-- then take it.
What I did a couple of months ago was take the train from Santa Margherita Ligure to Monterroso and then the ferry to Porto Venere. The seas were a little rough so the ferry didn't stop at other villages however the captain passed close by so the passengers could take photos.
I've taken it other times when the sea is calm.
I got a reply message from Tigullio Marine Lines. All the lines 3,4, and 5 into Cinque Terre are not operating because of legal problems. They do not know when they will resume.
