Santa Margherita and area

Looking for recommendations for or against using Santa Margherita as a launch point for Cinque Terre since we are driving. Need to find a hotel that would include parking for the car for 2-3 nights.

David, haven't stayed in SM, so can't comment on that. A couple of ideas: most of the CT towns have lots on edge of town, so you don't have to rule them out. just don't plan on driving once you get there. Also consider Levanto. A nice walkable tourist town, several hotels there have parking, included in CT train pass and ten minutes by train from CT. Enjoy!

Monterosso especially will have close and ample parking, at least to the new part of town. We trained through SM, it seemed quite nice as well.

My husband and I have been visiting the CT area for years and we always base in Santa Margherita. It is a lovely town, very compact and convenient. We stay at the Hotel Tigullio, which is a 5-minute walk from the train station and a 4-minute walk to downtown Santa Margherita, where we can catch the orange bus for Portofino. The train allows us to go to CT and also the other direction to Camogli, Nervi, etc. The Hotel Tigullio is very nice and quiet and serves an ample breakfast buffet which is included in the price. Happy travels!
