About how long does it take to see this church?
Hi Yvonne. This isn't a very big church but there is a lot to see, depending on what your interests are. The tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo, Dante, Machiavelli, and Ghiberti are here; the Cappella Maggiore's frescoes were painted by the late-14th-century artist Agnolo Gaddi; the Cappella Peruzzi's frescoes were painted by Giotto. The church also has many gravestones set into the floor, most of which you can walk on. Some are so old (dating from the Middle Ages) that you aren't allowed to walk on them. Attached to the church is the Pazzi Chapel, designed by Brunelleschi in the 15th century and the interior has terra cotta roundels of the 12 apostles created by Luca della Robbia. Also attached to the church is the Museo dell'Opera di Santa Croce, with a fabulous enormous fresco of the Last Supper and Family Tree of Christ (14th century) by Taddeo Gaddi. The museum also has a very cool 13th-century wooden (2-dimensional) painted crucifix by Cimabue. If you're an art lover, I'd say plan to spend at least an hour here, including the Pazzi Chapel and museum.
Sarah, good description of the church! :)
