Sandals or Boots?

Will be all over Italy (top to bottom) for 3 weeks middle of October through November. Assuming both are made for comfort and lots of walking would anyone recommend sandals over boots? Unsure of temperatures and weather, etc. Thanks!

I wouldn't suggest either one of those in November. Not sure what kind of boots you're talking about but boots take up a lot of space in your luggage and there really not necessary. I would just bring along two pairs of comfortable walking shoes that you can mix with a variety of outfits. I like Merrill and Born for a good comfort/style combo.

I agree with Valerie. No boots or sandals. Need good walking shoes, sneakers, comfortable and two pairs. Need it to change off or if one pair gets wet, time to dry out. You will be doing a lot of walking and standing and need something supportive that can be worn all day long. Have a great time.

If your boots are comfortable and versatile, i.e. you'll wear them all the time, then I think they're fine for Italy in Oct-Nov. The weather won't be hot. You'd probably be chilly in sandals, and rain is more likely in Oct-Nov than during the summer. I've happily worn leather fashion boots with a low heel -- the kind you can tuck your jeans into and also wear with tights and a dress in the evening -- for extended travel.

Treat them with waterproofing before leaving home, and also bring a pair of little comfy slip-on footwear for inside the hotel to give your feet a break.

I'm not a sandal wearer, I need socks to keep my feet happy. My travel shoes consist of a pair of black Fly London ankle boots (for me the rubber wedge heel is absolutely the most perfect for long bouts of walking over all kinds of terrain, especially cobblestones--and they do make sandals on that wedge, check out Amazon if intrigued) and my second pair is a lace-up oxford in a fun color--last couple of trips it's been Fluevog Promise in either navy or orange. I am also considering trying a pair of Finn Comfort sneaker-ish styles like Soho or Ikebukuro, lots of color choices.

Weather won't be right for sandals - cool, likelihood of rain at some points. If by boots you mean a comfortable one for walking - leather or the like, then it's a good idea. Snow boots or big hiking boots are not needed. I will be in Rome over this time and will have a pair of fairly fashionable leather ankle boots that are comfortable for walking and dress up nicely for going out in the evening.
