Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona

We will be in Lake Garda for a few days in late August and will have a rental car. I am considering a visit to the Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona either as a day trip from Malcesine or en route from Malcesine to SIena, but would like some input as to how to whether it's worth the time to visit and whether it's only accessible on foot (walking up lots of stairs) or is there a bus which can take us from the parking lot below up to the sanctuary. Any input is welcome!

Have never been, I did research it though as a possible stop and know for certain there is a bus service that can take you roundtrip from the parking lot to the sanctuary. I personally would prefer the walk on the trail even though steep steps are involved as the view from the walk looks better than at the sanctuary itself and there are 12 religious scenes along the way.

The parking lot is in the town of Spiazzi
if walking you can walk the trail with steps or walk the paved road. You can also take the bus that runs on the same paved narrow road. In August the shuttle bus should be very frequent (every 15 minutes or so) ; bus ride said to be scenic as well.

I was envisioning walking the trail to the sanctuary and then taking the bus back to the car if we were to go ; but although nothing yet set in stone decided instead to visit Verona for a few hours instead with this available time. There is a café/snack bar at the sanctuary that looks to have a nice view.

Thanks for the information mreynolds...very helpful. Not sure if it's worth a detour from Lake Garda en route to Siena but it looks interesting and photo worthy!
