We know no Italian and nothing about truffles, but it seems like a unique thing to visit San Miniato Truffle Fair during one of the November weekends. Has anyone done so and what did you think? Is it worth the taxi/bus fare and would we get anything out of it? (I won’t pay $1K for a truffle!) Thanks.
We enjoyed it very much. The town is a beauty in its own right, very evocative, and the event is well organized. We were driving and there were inexpensive parking lots below the town with a shuttle bus up. The streets were lined with vendors and shops of all kinds and the crowds were lively but not oppressive. The town's attractions were all open and the views from the hill town are enjoyable. For food, you can eat street food, including affordable truffle flavored items, at some stands or sit at some of the tents set up by local groups or at some of the towns restaurants. We were luckily able to reserve the last seats at La Cantina del Fondo on arrival - others had reserved ahead.
It was an excellent adventure overall, and we would definitely do it again. Since it's November, I would try to avoid committing money until you can get a weather forecast.
Thanks Mike; that is exactly what I wanted to know. I assume the weather report due to not getting there for the snow.
No snow to worry about, but a steady stormy rain would spoil the party.
