It is not too far away from my base location, interesting or no?
Its best from a distance!
Once there its a tacky duty free shopping strip and not much else…..drive by if you can a take a quick look from a view point but don't waste your time otherwise!
guess I will cross that out. Thanks.
Another sight I just added to my list see-next-time-i'm-in-Italy: http://www.italiainminiatura.com/en
And just next to San Marino
You should visit it. It's very beautiful and historical. Plus the views from up there are amazing. If you have a car, you should also add nearby San Leo and even Gradara to your visit.
I disagree with Jeff's biased opinion. If one had to cross out every town because of the tacky touristy souvenir shops, there would be nothing worthwhile left to visit in Italy (or elsewhere). Souvenir shops are there because lots of people visit the place from all over the world. San Marino is certainly more quaint and interesting of any town I have seen in California or even the U.S. (if San Marino is tacky, then what is faux Danish Solvang, Calif.?)
There are lots of touristy souvenir shops in Venice as well, but very few (if any) souvenir shops in Porto Marghera. There is a reason for that.
I agree with Roberto. Living in Gettysburg, we have a lot of the same items & shops described, but the place is certainly well worth the trip- San Marino was worth a full day to us, but not worth a repeat trip.
