San Marino driving towards Florence

We will drive from Bologna to San Marino, have lunch, take a walk, but then need to drive to Florence. Without backtracking on the same highway, has anyone driven E35 over the mountains or SR70/SR71? I would like to see something I haven't seen before.

Yes. I've driven the route you mention E35/ss71/sr70) many times. But I have a country house exactly midway therefore I haven't done the whole route in one shot. From Florence to that house is just over one hour. And from there to San Marino it's almost 2hr. So you are looking at 3 hour at the wheel. From Bagno di Romagna when you get off the e35 freeway through the Mandrioli pass to Soci is real serious curvy mountains so I hope your stomach can take it. Then from Poppi to Florence through the Consuma pass is curvy also at least to Pontassieve. You couldn't choose a more beautiful route through the largest National Forest in Italy. But leave early because it's a long drive especially if you stop for pictures

Thank you so much. You gave me the push to drive an alternate route. We ended up driving via Arezzo as it was slighly quicker even if slightly longer. Beautiful easy drive.
