San Marco Museum in St. Mark's Basilica in Venice

Rick's guidebook says that the San Marco Museum (bronze horses) is open on Sunday mornings while the Basilica itself is closed. I'm wondering if Sunday morning is a good or bad time to visit the museum in terms of crowd, etc. Also how can I get to the museum entrance if the Basilica is closed? Is the museum entrance outside the basilica? Thank you for any information you could give me.

The basilica is open on Sunday mornings but only to attend mass, not for tourists to wander around.
The entrance to the museum is adjacent to the basilica, on the right side, if you're facing the front of the basilica.

EDIT: I think the basilica re-opens on Sunday afternoons (2-5pm) for sightseeing, but one must dress appropriately.
