San Marco Basilica Tickets July 2025

Hello everyone,

Have you ever purchased tickets to the San Marco Basilica before? I have tried to purchase tickets to skip the line, and it appears that they have already sold out for July 2025. The website is not the most user friendly, as it does not let us know if the day has been sold out or not. Perhaps I did not book enough in advance. Side note : I'm able to get 2 tickets for tomorrow in my cart and there is several time slots options as well, but all the other dates are blacked out (little clickable circle around the dates for June), yet I can click them without having any possibility regarding time slots. July, August and September are not even showing these circles as if the tickets are not yet available ? Am I doing something wrong ?

Have any of you ever tried purchasing tickets the day of? How was your experience? Did you have to wait in line for a long time? All other blogs and travel guides I have read tell me that the lines can be daunting. I am an early bird, so I would go as early as I possibly can. Do you know when I can start lining up for tickets purchases for same-day visits? I've also read somewhere that there is a QR code at the end of the queue so you can buy tickets directly on your phone for a dame-day visit, would that be an option ?

Is there another way to get tickets ? And is it a really big loss if we aren't able to see it ?
Thank you!

We visited in early May, and I tried to get tickets in late March. The website had none available. I had to go to a third party (Viator, Get Your Guide, etc.) and pay more for the skip-the-line tickets. The instructions to meet the GYG staff were accurate, but downloading their app was frustrating. BTW, it seems that skip-the-line ticketing for both the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's was a bit misleading. You will be in a line, perhaps a much shorter one, but you will be waiting.

We decided to go with the third party as I doubt we will be back to Venice. We are glad we went, but it was more of a tick-off-the-list sort of visit. Venice was SOOOO crowded and I didn't think the piazza was all that interesting. While there were cafes surrounding it, the buildings looked quite the same and sterile. I suppose my exposure to many other European sites has jaded me. There are many other lovelier town squares in Europe.

They are changing the reservation for tickets from 1 July. The new system was supposed to go live in early June, but it hasn't happened yet, and they've taken down the notification that used to pop up on the ticketing website. If you're concerned, you can book a third party tour. If you're okay with waiting, just keep checking back until the new site is live or they release tickets on the old site. If for some reason you can't get tickets at all, I would arrive early (30 minutes before opening time) to be at the front of the queue.

Hello!
@jeff would you know if there is so kind of way to get a notification when the system will be up and running ? Or where should I be checking instead of looking at the web site every day ?

Your info seems to corresponds another thread I've seem here a few days ago.

Someone here will probably post about it, but I'd just check every day. You can also try emailing the Basilica to see if they have more information.

The website is still not showing any available tickets in July. Some tour operators are marking Basilica tickets up 20 times their value with no tour. I found the most reasonable tickets on Venetoinside.com. After I purchased them, I got the below response to my email from [email protected].

Hello

Right now tickets are no longer available online, but it’s always possible to purchase it at the cash desk of Basilica (S. Clemente Door). It’s always to purchase online tickets for Bell Tower.
Starting next week it will be possible to purchase tickets online (https://basilicasanmarco.skiperformance.com/it/negozio#/it/acquista?skugroup_id=3974) for July and the rest of the year.
Entry to St. Mark’s Basilica and Museum is permitted only to appropriately dressed visitors: shorts and sleeveless or short tops are not allowed.
Venezia Unica City Pass does not allow entry to the St. Mark’s Basilica, Museum and Campanile, but only to the Museums of Venice.
Best regards

I have inquired as well and received a similar message from the Basilica organization.
It seems the new system as been presented to guides and officials in the last few weeks. From a post in italian on the News section of the basilica's website, I've also read that the system is suppose to be operationnal on July 1st.

My guess at this point is to check regularly if the new system is up on their website. At least, for now, that's what I'm planning to do.

Here's a translation from the italian bit of news on their website :

Online ticketing for visits to the monumental complex of the Basilica of San Marco

As previously announced in the press, the Procuratoria di San Marco intends to present to operators in the tourism sector the new online ticketing system for visits to the monumental complex of the Basilica of San Marco, which will be operational starting from July 1, 2025.

The presentation, which will be held on Tuesday, June 3, at 2:30 p.m., in the conference room of Sant’Apollonia (Castello 4309, 30122 Venice), will be attended by the First Procurator of San Marco, lawyer Bruno Barel.

The invitation to participate in the meeting is addressed exclusively to guides registered or in the process of registering in the National List of Tourist Guides of the Ministry of Tourism, who on this occasion will have the opportunity to learn about the new ticketing system.

Certain that we can count on your presence at this meeting opportunity, we thank you in advance and send you our warmest regards

RSVP by Sunday, June 1: [email protected]

The presentation will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the Procuratoria di San Marco: https://www.youtube.com/@ProcuratoriaSanMarco
