San Lorenzo Maggiore Naples - Is there a dress code to visit Excavations?

We will be in Naples in July and want to visit the Neapolis and forum under the church but since this is hot travel day we will want to be in shorts. Is this a church that enforces the covered shoulders and knees dress code like St. Peters in Rome or is it more casual?

Most churches in Italy prefer that visitors wear modest clothing when visiting, so presumably a church in Naples will be the same. It's all a matter of respecting the culture of the country. I personally find that skirts and loose tops are more comfortable than shorts on hot days.... If you must wear shorts, then there is always the wrap as a skirt trick and have a loose top you can slip on over what you are wearing. Don't forget you will be underground and it will be surprisingly cool and maybe a bit damp.
