Has anyone done this tour? Looks like one per day around 3pm. We would be going in May.
Can we just show up or do we join a tour? Can you see monks making the jam or just a tour of the church?
Is the gift shop open without the tour? I’m very curious about this but don’t want to hop the vaporetto then find out we missed it or didn’t get advance tickets.
Thank you!!
I have done this twice, most recently last month. There is one dedicated vaporetto #20 that leaves daily from San Zaccaria stop at 3:10 pm. Once on the island, you have to take a tour. It starts at around 3:25pm. They offer tours in English, Italian, and Armenian. I believe the cost was 10 Euro per person. The tour includes the church and parts of the monastery, including Lord Byron's room. You DO NOT get to see the monks making jam (or any monks hanging around). At the end of the tour, you will have some time (not a lot) for the gift shop where you can buy the rose jam. Then at 5:25 pm you will take the vaporetto back to San Zaccaria stop in Venice. If you do not have time for the tour, I believe you can arrange for a private tour but you probably have to take a water taxi to the island.
Great info!! Thank you so much.
