I am finding some conflicting information about the price of a one way #2 valperetto ride from the St Mark's Sq area to San Giorgio Maggiore.
I know that purchase a 24 hour ticket for 20 Euros but was wondering if there is a less expensive one way ticket to this church than the normal 7.5 Euro one way fare?
Don't think so. Its 7.50 EUR even if you only go one stop on a vaporetto line. Actually, its 7.50 EUR just to stand on the dock.
There is a €5 Ferry Ticket that gets you (one-way) from San Zaccaria to San Giorgio. You can go to this website, scroll down to and click on "Ordinary Tickets without Venezia Unica Card", then scroll down again until you see the Ferry Ticket mentioned.
On the other hand there is no extra charge to come back on a normal ticket if you do it within the expiry time of the ticket. No extra charge to ride anything if you have the pass, on and off as much as you like.
The ferry ticket is one way, and would be the same again to return.
I am not sure that Nigel’s info is correct. As I understand it, a ticket is valid for 75 minutes after being activated, for travel in one direction.
So using the one ticket for San Zac / San Giorgio / San Zac might not be possible.
Nigel's post brought up this memory...I have a Venezia Unica card, loaded with 75 minute tickets. I took a vaporetto somewhere, then some point later went to board another vaporetto from the same stop. When I put my card up to the reader for the second trip, I got a different readout than the normal one of how many more tickets where on the card. Instead, it said I had 2 minutes of validity left. Unfortunately, I don't remember if I was trying to go back the way I came or not or even if the stop I was at had separate readers/docks for different vaporetto lines/directions. I do remember waiting because I didn't want to get on the boat with only 2 minutes of validity, then rereading my card after waiting 3 minutes and it wiped another ticket off the card. So, perhaps you can use a 75 minute ticket anyway you want, so long as you're off the boat in that time frame, I just don't know and didn't find anything that said you couldn't with a cursory inspection of the ACTV website. Peter, don't know if you're still in Venice or not, and don't know what you have loaded on your card, but perhaps some in-the-field research is in order!
