San Gimignano for Christmas Week

Okay, now that I have found the rustic and quaint town to spend my holiday, any suggestions? Will there be any restaurants open? I will be there December 22-27

Your best bet is to call your hotel and ask them to make reservations for you esp. on Xmas day. Hopefully someplace will be open! I was just in San G last week and it's a beautiful place, it's crowded during the day when all the tourists are there. What are you planning to do there for 5 days?

We plan on using San Gimignano as our base for taking side day trips. We leave San G on the 27th and go to Bologna for 2 days, then to Venice for the New Year holiday and take a few day trips from there. Good idea to email the restaurant for reservations for Christmas dinner. If not, cheese, bread and wine will work for us! Who cares?? We are in Italy!!

We just returned 2 weeks ago from here. Spent 8 nights at an agriturismo (Podere BellaVista, www.poderebellavista.net) just a few km outside of San Gim. before heading to Bologna. We have been to this area before and decided to revisit some of the places we have previously been to. We would visit San Gimignano later in the day/evening after the tour buses had cleared out. We enjoyed eating several times at Locanda di Sant'Agostino on the very untouristy piazza near the Sant'Agostino Church. The pastas and pizzas were excellent and their tomato bruschetta amazing! They have lots of outdoor seating, which we took advantage of as the weather was stunning. Have indoor seating too. They are closed Jan. and Feb. It is not a fancy place but great food. If you have a car, Volterra is an easy drive from San Gim. as is Siena and Monteriggione. We drove to Florence for the day (had a gps) easily parked at Piazelle Michangelo, free pkg. Buon Viaggio!
