San Gimigliano to Venice

After a week at an agriturismo near San Gimigliano we want to take a train to Venice. The question is--where would be the best place to drop off our rental car and get a train to Venice on a Saturday morning? We could drive the car to Sienna or Florence or any place else but need to figure out all the logistics involved.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Exactly. Drop it off in Florence. The train to Venice is about 2 hrs. Make sure you use the Italian name for the stations. Firenze S.Maria Novella to Venezia S.Lucia

Drop it in Florence (1hr away) then take the train.
Unless you prefer to drive the whole way to Venice (Piazzale Roma).
It’s up to you. If you have a large party, maybe with substantial luggage, driving is cheaper and less hassle. But it’s a boring (and tiring for the driver) 4 hour drive on the freeway.

In terms of travel time the difference is minimal. The train is faster, but the car return in Florence and the transfer to the station will eat up some time too, so when it’s all said and done you need the same 4 hours regardless.
