Hello there, we just booked tickets to Italy leaving from San Francisco, to Mian, via Zurich.
Can someone tell me when we would do the passport check/entry? Switzerland is in the schengen zone, so I'm guessing we do that check in Zurich, and the customs check in Milan if we have anything to declare.

Zurich: Passport Control (Schengen Port of Entry)
Milan: Customs (random check at the discretion of customs officers, generally it's just a walk-through if you have nothing to declare). Checked luggage goes through from Zurich to Milan. You don't need to retrieve luggage at the first port of entry (Zurich) like in the US.
The flight from Zurich to Milan is equivalent to a domestic flight in US
