Same-day outlets for Uffizi tickets

Need your help, Peeps.

A couple of my rellies are going to be in Florence on Oct. 8th.
They want to see the Uffizi but balked at having to buy tickets/reserve a time slot in advance.
They are counting on the line not being too long in the afternoon.
They only have one afternoon that they can do the museum.

I'm not a hopeful tigger about the length of that ticket queue, and one of the two could poop out if having to stand in a long one before they ever get inside.

According to Rick's "last-minute strategies", there's a chance of nailing same-day tickets at Orsanmichele Church, or at My Accademia Libreria bookstore. Can any of you confirm that this information is still current? If so, I'd like to send that to them as a Plan B. I'll also see if they can have their hotel order tickets.

Grateful for all replies!

I'll say, "yes," to the Orsanmichele Church and My Accademia Libreria because that same text has gone to press for the 2018 edition of the book. But as you know, the same page also says, "From April through October and on weekends, it can be crowded even late in the day. Iā€™d reserve a spot any time of year." Of course, Plan C is to spend ā‚¬72/person for a Firenze Card.

I'm puzzled - if they only have one afternoon when they can see the Uffizi, and they know they want to see it, what's the problem with making advance reservations?

I could understand if they weren't sure that they wanted to go. I could understand if they had several possible days, and weren't sure which one would fit best. But in their situation, I don't see what they have to lose, except a long wait in line.

Laura, you're a peach, and grazie mille for the speedy confirmation!
I'd suggest the Firenze card but they're only spending 1/2 of one day and the morning of another in Florence.

Yep, I read the rest of the text, and been there myself (but in late spring) so I've seen how long that line can be. šŸ˜³

Harold, it's simply a case of Planner's Exhaustion. One of the two did most of the prep work and bookings for hotels/tickets/tours/trains/etc. (and worked really hard on it!) and just plain gave out by the time it came to one..more..booking. But they are good travelers who do very well together, and I'm sure they'll find other things to do if the museum doesn't pan out.

I'm just the cheering section. šŸ¤—

LOL, Doric!
A very good idea except that, well, it's not MY trip, and I've probably already done quite enough, "Oh you MUST see THIS!" already, and one mentioned specifically wanting to have flexibility for this thing...

The alternative suggestions have been offered up and I've scampered back to my nosebleed seat in the spectator area. :O)
