Salerno- water tour or ferry?

We are staying in Salerno for 4 nights, 3 full days in mid June as part of a longer Italy trip. I can't decide if it's worth the money to book a water tour (which is 7-8 hours so quite the time commitment) or depend on the ferries to take us around to different points such as Vietri, Praiano, Amalfi, etc. Or are there shorter boat tours we could take? We want to see some of the beautiful towns from the water (while avoiding the traffic on buses) but have opportunity to explore some of those towns on foot. We don't have a specific town in mind though would prefer to miss the crowds that I hear are in Positano. We will spend other days going to either Pompeii or Paestum and exploring Salerno.

There is no ferry to Praiano but there may be water taxis from the closer villages.
Vietri is so close that I would use bus or train to get there, then maybe the Travelmar ferry for other trips.

Yes, Vietri Sul Mare is no more than 15 minutes by SITA bus from the Salerno station. It's known for its pottery and is supposed to be quite nice. RE: getting to the A.C. in Late June, I think the ferry is your only choice. Book early both ways, sail early, and I'd go from Salerno to Amalfi. 35 minutes. That's not the time of year to be hopping from place to place. You'll probably find it incredibly crowded.

Thank you! Should I try to book train tickets and ferry tickets ahead of time? I'm guessing no for the ferry since it's weather dependent.
