Hello, I am trying to find an Airbnb within walking distance or near public transportation in Salerno. I can't find a map that shows the train station that comes from Florence and goes to Rome. Never been there and having trouble picking a space to stay for 5 nights in October. Suggestons!
The train station is on the east side of town, close to the Marina.

Use Google maps
Search for “Salerno train station”
Also, the Marina to which I referred is the departure point for the Travelmar ferries (which run April-October), and which are an excellent way to get around the Amalfi Coast.
If you are interested in a nice, affordable hotel instead of an AirBnb, check out Hotel Plaza.

We have plans to stay there because it is right by the train station and the ferries.
If you wish to be close to the main transportation, you probably can't get any closer.
I stayed at Salerno Centro B&B and highly recommend it. It only has 3 rooms (Positano is the best). According to google maps, it's a 13 minute walk from the train station. My host picked me up at the train station and took me back there when I left. It's an easy walk, most of Salerno is level. The B&B is on the edge of the historic center and a short walk to the sea shore. There are several good restaurants and bars within a 5-minute walk. Much nicer than around the station.
I stayed near the station but agree with Chani that being closer to the historic center would be nicer. For one thing, that's where most of the interesting restaurants seem to be. But if someone is pinching pennies or anxious to dump their luggage ASAP, the station area is fine as far as I'm concerned.
Anything within a short walk of the two streets that are one ways each direction along the water is close to public transportation as there are many buses that go up and down those streets to and from the area of the train station. I would go with anything near the Corso to the sea as pretty good, and the Salerno Centro B&B would be the farthest I would REALLY want to walk with luggage from the station (though I always end up going farther haha). I have stayed in the Hotel Plaza and it is VERY convenient to all of the train and ferry options. Just to warn you though, the garbage collection and station traffic can be loud at times.
Bottom of this thread has my review of Hotel Montestella
It’s about 10 min from Station, down the Corso- Main Street/ pedestrianized most of time I think so much quieter than Hotel Plaza
It was very inexpensive when we stayed there 2019-a bit over 100 euros a night IIRC
