Hope the seas are friendly on May 12th as we'd like to take the ferry from Salerno to Positano and back on May 21st. If you've made this trip, i'd appreciate you're insights or experience. Our backup plan to rough seas is the Siti bus to Positano - need to research more.
We took the ferry from Salerno to Positano. It was a highlight of our trip. The Amalfi coast is just gorgeous from the water. You won't regret it. We all we so excited seeing Positano and getting closer and closer! Our back up plan was the bus, also.
When we got off the train and walked outside we didn't know where to go...it's not like there are signs. We just started following the crowd. You just exit, go to the street curb and start walking towards the marina. It took about 5 minutes or so.
Hopefully you can take the ferry. Only 1:15. Bus is almost double that. Schedule here.
You have to change busses in Amalfi
Thanks Lulu, when did you travel?
Geri, thanks for your reply - i'm not sure what you mean regarding 1:15?
My wife and I are planning the same thing, just a few days earlier. We're staying at the Hotel Marincanto and I'm just curious about the ferry landing area. I've read warnings about getting to certain hotels if they're situated on higher ground. Does anyone know if access to that hotel is ok?
Tcsonjack,
1:15= 1 hour 15 min.
I went in September 2015. I stayed at the Hotel California, which I believe is on the same street as Hotel Marincanto. Yours is a little further walk. it definitely uphill! You'll be huffing and puffing a little. We are in our 50's and try to stay in shape. We went up and down the 3 days we were there. Porters will be at the ferry landing, and will take your luggage to your hotel. We were a little concerned about that, but they appeared just after we got there.
Definitely stop by Francos for a pre dinner cocktail...it's down the road.
Lulu. Thank you. We are in our early 50's and are in very good shape, so it shouldn't be a problem with the hill. Knowing that there are porters there in case eases some concerns. Another question for you: did you book your ferry tickets ahead of time or did you get them when you arrived? We are very "scheduled" when we travel so I'd like to have all transport (train, ferry, etc.) booked ahead of time.
