I'm planning a trip to Rome and the Amalfi coast with a base in Salerno. On our way back to Rome we definitely wanted to stop by Pompeii. The trains from Salerno stop at a different station than the rest of the Amalfi coast trains, and I was wondering what is the best way to get back to Rome from Pompeii. Also what would you recommend when leaving baggage at either the pompeii office or train station. Just trying to organize everything so vacation goes by smoothly! Thanks in advance for the help and if you have any general suggestions I am open to all advice.
Salerno to Pompeii is on the trenitalia line. Check on their website whether it makes more sense to return to Salerno to change to a train to Rome, or continue on to Naples en route to Rome.
It is difficult to get up to date information on luggage storage, but it is my current understanding that the Pompeii Trenitalia station does NOT have luggage storage, but that the Circumvesuviana station and the Pompeii site itself have luggage storage. If you have manageable luggage, it is not a terribly far walk from the Trenitalia station to Pompeii (probably about 15-20 minutes).
There are no left luggage facilities at the main Pompeii station. You would need to taxi to the Pompeii Scavi station or the entrance near it to drop your luggage. Then the reverse to continue on to Rome.
Edit. Taxi will take about 5 minutes and cost around 8,50E
