I'm having some trouble find bus or trains options going from Salerno to Matera in mid-april. 1 webpage shows only a single bus in the evening. However, i find several options from salerno to potenza and then potenza to matera.
Has anyone had direct experience taking a bus and/or train from Salerno to Matera? if so, how?

I have taken the train from Matera to Bari, less than 2 hours. Be aware it's not the Trenitalia but another (delightful small line) so it doesn't show up on Trenitalia.
Then to Salerno from Bari, the fastest train is 4.5 hours
On my return to Bari from Matera I took a taxi back to Bari,because I wanted to make a connection in Bari. Nice taxi ride through the countryside. It was around 60 euros.
I never rent a car, but will occasionally take a taxi if it meets my needs and much prefer over the expense,parking issues and driving in general.
One last thing...I had originally planned to fly Ryanair from Bari to Rome but flight was canceled, so I took the train to Rome.
