Salerno or Sorrento or Positano?where to stay?

I will be travelling from September 30 to October 3,2013 to Italy. I have 4 days for south of Italy, I would like to do Naples,Pompeii,Sorrento,Capri,Amalfi,Positano. I planned Naples & Pompeii for Day1...for other 3 days need your help. Can you please advise where to stay? I am confused between Sorrento,Positano or Salerno. Regards

you probably will find more hotel options in Sorrento and from there you can bus to amalfi towns - they're all on the same bus line next to each other. if you pack light, you have the option to stay at any of the villages but otherwise Sorrento is easier to get in/out from/to Naples for you next leg.

Hi Nisha... Yes Sorrento is your best option for a centralized stay. From there you'll be able to visit all of the other desired towns in the area with ease and be able to take in Sorrento perhaps in the evenings. Either bus, ferry or renting scooters will get you were you'd like to go. 4 days is a nice option and you'll have plenty to see and do. Positano and Amalfi are popular destinations for sightseeing and perhaps even more of a gem is Capri. Rick has some nice options for hotels in Sorrento and should be pretty easy to book. Enjoy your stay. Eric

Sorrento is your best choice. It's a very charming town in itself and it offers the easiest transportation options to other places in the area. I'd scratch Salerno. It's not a tourist destination and it has little of interest in comparison to Sorrento or Positano.

Another vote here for Sorrento! This past July on a 3-week trip to Italy we spent 4 nights here on a 2nd visit to Sorrento. From Sorrento you can easily visit Positano, Pompeii, Capri, etc. We stopped off in Naples and cked our bags at the train station for about 5 hrs. enroute to Sorrento. Our first visit to Sorrento was in 2006 when Italy won the World Cup. Was here with my husband and two sons and we will never forget the excitment. It was unbelievable!

I've chosen to use Sorrento as a base as well for my upcoming trip next week! I am looking forward to it. From there, we will take day trips to Amalfi and Capri. For those who have already been, any suggestions on what to see in Sorrento around the Via Capo area?

Sorrento is our favorite place in Italy. We've been there 3 times for a week each time and always hate to leave, always wish we could stay longer. It's a charming and beautiful town. For what to do in Sorrento.. just walk around everywhere and explore all the streets, nooks and crannies. It is so fun. We also really enjoyed the HopOn HopOff Bus. We enjoy all the shops, and even the Coop grocery store is fun.. Rice Krispies in Italian.. priceless.

Sorrento! We spend 5 nights in Sorrento back in April. We took took the train to Sorrento, changing trains in Naples and then spent the afternoon wandering. Day 1 - train back to Pompei, day 2- Capri, day 3 private car on Amalfi Coast-Positano, Almalfi, Paestum, day 4 Sorento.

Nisha, We did the same trip a few years ago, except for Capri which we unfortunately missed due to time. We stayed in Naples to also see Pompeii, Herculaneum, which worked out easy. We then ferried to Positano (thru Sorrento and transfer). Positano was stunning, and from there we also traveled by ferry, bus to Amalfi and Ravello. This worked well. We were also able to visit Paestum by train from Salerno. Paestum is not to be missed and we had the place to ourselves. Enjoy this wonderful trip.
