Hi All,
First time posting a question here. I have read a lot of forum posts on the subject but can’t quite find my answer. I will be in Salerno the last week of May and I want to have some beach time. The Lungomare Seems to be a boardwalk affair to walk along the seafront. Does it also have pebbles or sand where you can sun and swim from?
Also what are other beachs there? When I get google I get everything from my Maiori to Amalfi but I want a beach right in Salerno. Thanks so much in advance.
This from walks of Italy. On Salerno.
- Salerno’s beach is big… and central.
In Salerno, though, the beaches are much bigger. They don’t quite make it onto our list of Italy’s best beaches, but they’re far more convenient. They’re a stone’s throw from the historic center, so you can walk to them right from your hotel. That also means that they’re close to Salerno’s more-industrial port.

Gerri -thank you so much. I know I’m probably being dense but if I’m staying in Olde Towne do I just walk towards the water and the beach will be there?
EP -I too am interested in the ruins and will definitely get to Paestum. And eating, yes! Any recommendations you have there would be greatly appreciated. I like all Italian food and pizza! Nothing too fancy just trattoria styleAs I will be traveling alone and don’t want fancier settings. I just want one chill day on the beach.
Thank you so much!
You can’t miss the beach in Salerno. You can also hop in a taxi for a quick ride to Vietri Sul Mare where there is also a beach and is less industrial than Salerno.
Our best meal in Salerno was actually Greek

Best gelato at Bar Nettuno along the Lungomare
If you google Salerno beaches and go to "images" you will see the sandy beach right in Salerno
Paestum has 2 very nice soft sand beaches. The closer you get to the Cilento region the better the beaches.
If you google images of Salerno beaches you might also want to google images of Salerno harbor to get the big picture.
Vietri sul Mare has a long sandy beach, but the waters edge may have pottery shards 2-4”s from pottery that was broken by the manufactures if colors and designs were not up to standards.
Some good restaurants on this beach in the lower part of town.
Salerno's beach is at just before the beginning of the of the promenade. It is large, compared to all the other beaches on the Amalfi Coast and it is definitely sandy, not pebbles. It's a short walk from the historic center. The water will hopefully be warmish by the end of May. Nettuno has the best gelato around. You can't miss it - walk a bit along the promenade, it's the gelateria with the line outside.
Thank you so much for all the good advice! I googled again and found the beach so that is perfect I’ll definitely watch out for Nettuno-One of our favorite things in Europe is daily gelato!
Combining Paestum with a half day on the beach there sounds like a good idea too. I will have a car for that day so I may drive along and stop at a beach along the road.
One final question. I will be there the last week of May and thinking of packing a few light summer dresses. Will that be appropriate, or should I plan on not so summery clothes?
Thank you again everyone! What a wonderful community

We were there same time 2019
We had some warm sunny days and some chilly rainy days
Be prepared!
I think that swimming in May will be very chilly!!
