We will be in the Sorrento and Amalfi Area and we are considering taking a day trip to Salerno. Does anyone have any thoughts on Salerno?

I used Salerno as my train stop from Rome instead of braving the wilds of Naples. I was renting a car, you see. I did not see anything compelling to look at in Salerno. It takes a while to get there using the Amalfi Road and would not be worth the trip in my opinion. There are much better places to explore.
