Safety of train stations at night in Venezia, Ravenna and Perugia

Hi

We are travelling to Italy in a in a couple weeks, and for a fact, the trip we will be arriving by train at around 10 pm at night in the stations of Ravenna Perugia and Venecia (two different ones).

Are these train stations safe at that time at night or should we change show our train tickets for earlier trips.

Thanks for any advice.

Arriving at Venice Santa Lucia at 22:00 could be OK. However finding your way to your accommodation could be very challenging.
Venezia Mestre can be a bit rough at times. I would avoid Mestre much after dark.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, most of the train connections I bought are not refundable, so I might have to lose some. Right now, the issue is with our connections from:

Rome to Perugia - we arrive at 10:22PM
Perugia to Ravenna - we arrive at 10:12PM
Ravenna to Venice - we arrive at 10:41.

Im thinking on keeping the trains for Perugia and Ravenna, as there are no more connections, and we arrive and leave for the hotel.

But for Venice, the current trip is
Ravenna to Bologna
Bologna to Venezia Santa Lucia
Venezia Santa Lucia to Venezia Mestre

so, lots of waiting time in train stations late at night.

So, Im thinking on cancelling that trip (not refundable sadly) and booking an earlier train. Even found one with fewer connections... so might indeed be better.

Can I ask why you are going to Venezia Santa Lucia, then to Venezia Mestre. If your hotel is in Mestre, just get off the train there on the way to Santa Lucia, as all trains to Santa Lucia stop at Mestre first.

Yes, that's just because first we had planned to stay near S. Lucia, but then that changed and our hotel is now near Mestre, but as I already had the train tickets, I figured I just buy the connection. But, now I'm thinking we rather not be out there so late...

Thanks. I imagine it is a good chance it will be all safe. But, as Im travelling with my wife and two kids, Im feeling a bit uneasy of having to wait for a train at 10PM in some lonely station. I think it will be fine for Ravenna and Perugia, and I think I wont change those, but for Venezia, its seems too much too late on the train stations.

So it looks like you are taking the 20:18 Frecce departure to Venezia S. Lucia, arriving at 22:09, then changing to an IC train departing at 22:31 and arriving at Mestre at 22:41.

My point is that the Frecce train stops at Mestre 21:56, so just get off the train there and you will be at your destination almost an hour earlier, rather than wasting time continuing to S. Lucia only to take a train back to Mestre. Just because you have a ticket, does not mean you have to use it for the entire trip. These are trains, not airplanes.

Exactly what Sam said. Get off in Mestre before the train heads to S. Lucia. Your arrival isn't really late, and families aren't typically the target of choice by ne'er do wells. Get off the train and walk with purpose to the taxi stand.

Even if you have the ticket paid all the way to Venezia Santa Lucia you can still get off one stop earlier at Mestre. Nobody is going to give you a fine for getting off the train at an earlier stop.

Rome to Perugia - we arrive at 10:22PM

Most tourists take the mini-metro from the train station up to the hilltown area of Perugia but it only runs until 9pm. Assuming you are staying in the hilltown area I hope you've researched other ways to get to your hotel
