We are staying near the Pitti Palace and would like parking outside the ZTL nearby. We do not mind walking and do not want to waste a lot of time getting to and from the van for our day trips. I think Oltrarno would be best but don't know safe it is for overnight parking. Any other recommendations? Thanks!
There is a parking garage just inside the Porta Romana at Piazza Della Calza 1. it’s a short walk from the Pitti Palace and is on the edge of the ZTL. If you’re staying at a B&B or hotel, you should also ask their advice.
That one suggested by Philip is a good one - but do be careful about two things.
Since it is a garage make sure that the van you are driving is permissible. They will have a height limit and the spaces will only be so wide.
The other thing is to be prepared for the price. €2 for each and every hour with no "daily ticket".
Just so you have a heads up, the width and size of a van is going to be almost too big for either driving or parking, in and around Florence/Tuscany/surrounding areas. Sounds like you may need the size of a van, but just know ahead of time that it will be challenging driving. Plus the height problem mentioned by the previous poster. I once saw a van side-scraped in the Siena parking lot.
