We are taking a two night side trip to Venice fromm our month long stay in Orvieto. We're in Venice and have just noticed that the train tickets that took us to Venice brought us to S Lucia Station but the return tickets leave from Venezia Mestre Station. Can anyone offer any advice as to the most efficient way to get to Mestre from S Lucia? Is there a shuttle perhaps?
Local trains are moving between the two stations constantly for 1.25 euro. Buy a ticket and go.
Guy,
My suggestion is the same. Use one of the frequent Regionale trains between stations. It's only about a 10 minute ride.
That sounds like the InterCity from Trieste to Roma, via Orvieto.
In which case, yes, take a local train the short hop to Mestre and change. Narrow tunnels and staircases at Mestre, no lifts or escalators.
Check, though, if perhaps your routing is with a fast train to Firenze and then a change for the slow(er) train to Orvieto.
It may be that you bought the tickets to start at Mestre but your train may still originate at Santa Lucia and have its first stop at Mestre. In which case take the train you will catch at Mestre and have a validated short hop ticket if the capotreno wants to be a little difficult. Unlikely but possible.
Can you tell us what it says on the ticket? Train number, date, time? Then I can give a definite answer. I hope you are having a GREAT time in Venice!!!
